University of Kent to adopt Microsoft’s city of the future?

I stumbled across a really interesting blog post on the Daring Fireball website from the Microsoft news site titled ‘How Microsoft quietly built the city of the future‘ which talks about the future of building maintenance and the office/campuses of the future.

Wouldn’t it be great if the University adopted such a thing. With all the different buildings, with the amount of times we complain that the heaters are on full blast and it’s boiling outside wouldn’t be great if they could adjust temperatures on a building by building basis, from a central place, with regularly monitored temperatures to not only save money but to also make us all more comfortable?

Obviously this is a very expensive venture and it would be interesting if the University would see similar savings but I think it’s worth a look at the very least? (Hint hint)
