Not Impressed: Messenger for Mac 8 Beta

I have been eagerly awaiting a version of Messenger for Mac with AV (Audio/Video) capabilities for a very long time. Now when version 7 was released not long ago i was estatic, then realising that all i got was the smallest possible UI changes and, if im not mistaken, the ability to write personal messages. I was bitterly disappointed. Never mind though. AV would be available for normal users shortly.

Shortly… Ummm, 3 or 4 months? Version 7.1 or 7.2 or something. I think that was a fair assumption to make especially since that AV was available for corporate users from version 7.

Turns out Messenger for Mac 8 (yes i said 8) Beta was leaked which does allow AV for its users. Its only JUST been released!  JUST! And it’s a fricken internal Beta and as buggy as hell. It crashes AND the fricking video doesn’t even bloody work properly! Fair enough its an Internal Beta but jesus christ Microsoft. You’ve had so much damn time. Your leaving us mac users out in the dark.

The only reason i want Messenger for Mac with AV is because not everyone uses Skype (hardly any in fact) plus the connection seems to be more reliable than Adium. At least it is here on campus.

Here i was thinking that AV would be introduced for personal users within a few months of version 7 but instead its been over 6 months and all they have released is an insanely buggy version of basically Version 7 with the addition of a poor implementation of audio and video capabilities.

Not impressed.
